In his last annual end-of-year Medical Education Grand Rounds as HMS Dean for Medical Education, Dr. Hundert will reflect on trends in medical education over the course of his administrative leadership roles (which began as Student Affairs Dean in 1990), sharing lessons learned and engaging with participants in a discussion about how to shape a bright future for medical education despite current challenges. Participants are asked to reflect on what they are grateful for, and the role gratitude plays in their career development in medicine and medical education.

Learning objectives

Upon completion of this session, participants will be able to

  1. Describe some of the trends in medical education over the last few decades that shape current educational practices,
  2. Appraise the root causes of some of our current challenges with a view toward moving forward in positive ways, and
  3. Discuss the role of gratitude as a fundamental human capacity that can help shape a better future for medical education.
