Housing & Transportation

Information for Visiting Students

Housing

Visiting students are responsible for their own room and board. We strongly recommend that you make housing arrangements prior to arrival in the Boston area. Housing can be expensive and difficult to find on a short-term basis. The Office of the Registrar does not supply housing information. Harvard teaching hospitals are located throughout the Boston area, and some have better public transport options than others; make sure you find housing convenient to the hospital where you will be working.

Short-term accommodations may be available at Vanderbilt Hall, a student dormitory on the HMS Campus in the Longwood Medical Area of Boston. Vanderbilt Hall is a non-smoking facility. Applications for Vanderbilt Hall are very limited, if available. To inquire, please refer to the Vanderbilt Hall application procedures for visiting students.

Transportation

Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from the hospital. Please note that parking is extremely limited and expensive in the Boston area. We recommend using public transport or free hospital shuttle services whenever possible. More information about Getting Around.
